The National Coordinating Council for Public Engagement in Higher Education and the Institute of Education in the UK have proposed a new open access journal for all those who are concerned about using knowledge to make a democratic impact on society.

Rajesh and I are working on plans to combine our two mailing lists.  He has a one that he has used historically for his blogs of many years and I have maintained this list for the past 3-4 years.  Our plans are to continue to send our blogs out at least twice a month, but have them posted as well on our UNESCO Chair web site.

First thank you all so very much for your support in getting information about the GUNi Call for Good Practices out last week; the deadline has been extend to February 10.  With your help the number of 'good practices' has more than doubled from around 45 to 94 as of today. There is still a need to receive short student videos and there is an opportunity to present posters as well.

From Ivory Tower to Public Square: Democracy and the Engaged University - GACER News - January 14

Just jumping onto a fine talk given by our friend Andrew Petter, President of the Vancouver, Canada based Simon Fraser University.  Andrew was an important voice at Uvic for its 'engagement' agenda and then moved into full speed once named as President of SFU supporting a move that included branding SFU as "The Engaged University"

His opening speech at the recent World University Forum is titled "From Ivory Tower to Public Square: Democracy and the Engaged University"…worth a read!

Budd is heading to India to join Rajesh for the India Launch of the UNESCO Chair.  It will take place December 10th at the Jamia Millia Islamia, an impressive university in South Delhi founded by the muslim community.
