Win-win ways: Educational enhancement through collaborative partnership between students, academics, and librarians

The 7th Creating Knowledge conference will take place at Lund University, Sweden, 14-16 August, 2013. Since 1999 the Creating Knowledge conferences have been held every second or third year. Arranged by NordINFOLIT, a Nordic collaboration forum for information literacy, the conferences are hosted by the Nordic countries in turn. In 2013, the Creating Knowledge VII conference is hosted by Lund University Libraries in Sweden.

Learning in a global and complex world means more than the acquisition of facts and knowledge. Students graduating from higher education should be prepared for problem solving and continuous change. Therefore, sustainable and empowering teaching and learning strategies preparing students to become global citizens, with a broad and explorative understanding of the world, are required.  

The ability to find and critically use information is crucial in our rapidly changing and complex society and a prerequisite in the learning process of the 21st century. Research findings stress information literacy as a situated practice integrated in a disciplinary context. This calls for collaboration on various levels. The conference will highlight information literacy and its role in the transformation of the learning process. It will demonstrate how cross-professional collaboration in higher education lead to a win-win situation for all collaborators.

The conference is open to all those involved in various aspects of teaching and learning in higher education; teachers, librarians, pedagogical developers and others. Among the keynotes are Christine Bruce, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, and Gráinne Conole, Professor of Learning Innovation and Director of the Beyond Distance Research Alliance at the University of Leicester. Call for paper is announced with a deadline in early March. We especially invite contributions that reflect on what cooperation across professional borders within the academy mean for educational quality and for students’ self-directed and lifelong learning.
