Cities and Citizen Engagement in the Digital Age - U21 Summer School - Glasgow - July 2015

We are very pleased that from tomorrow the U21 undergraduate Summer School, Cities and Citizen Engagement in the Digital Age will start in Glasgow. Students and staff from the majority of U21 universities will be with us for two weeks. The programme for the two weeks is attached, and i am pleased that the chair of the PASCAL Board, Professor Josef Konvitz and PASCAL Director, Professor Michael Osborne will be speakers.

Domestic Dissent and Foreign Hand: Unending Saga of Citizen-State Relations in India

Having left the teaching career at IIM Calcutta and ventured into the field of social development through a voluntary organisation some years ago, I was surprised to learn that an article had appeared in The Marxist (June 1984) which argued that ‘action groups and voluntary organisations  in India were a part of western imperialist strategy’. Written by a party activist Prakash Karat, it described such efforts, based on foreign funding, to be undermining the ‘leadership of the party and misguiding the revolution in the country’.

Fomento de San Sebastian, the economic development agency for the city of San Sebastian, is launching a new edition of the Internationalisation Grant Programme for local young graduates to do an internship at an international organization.

12th PASCAL International Observatory Conference - Catania - 7-9 October 2015 - Symposia

Several conference attendees have requested symposium sessions in which special interest groups can present their work. If groups are interested in such a session please note this intent when submitting your abstract. It will be possible for you to propose between 3 and 5 separate papers during a period of 1.5 hours in parallel session. This provides an opportunity to showcase the work of your organization as well as organize future work with potential members.

Connecting Cities and Universities at Strategic Frontiers - PASCAL 2015 conference in Catania 7-9 October

We are very pleased to announce that the next PASCAL conference will be hosted from 7-9 October 2015 by the University of Catania in Italy with the title, Connecting Cities and Universities at Strategic Frontiers, and under the co-ordination of PASCAL Associate Director in Europe, Professor Roberta Piazza.
