PASCAL Co-Directors visit the Seriti Institute in Jo'burg

During the course of a visit to the PASCAL Centre in Pretoria, PASCAL Co-directors Catherine Odora Hoppers, Paul Crawford and Mike Osborne and PASCAL Vice-Chair, Chris Shepherd had the pleasure of visiting the Seriti Institute and hearing of its work from one of its founders Gavin Andersson. The projects that the Institute is engaged in provide opportunities of thousands of South Africans to experience work, some for the very first time, and we commend the work. 

Xploit - first version of learningcommunities.eu launched

The first version of the final and reorganized Xploit outcomes website is now launched.

It is really a first version, and it will be further developed during the next months.

However, most of the content is in place, so you are invited to take a look (please click the image):

UNESCO Chair - GACER News - April 5, 2013

Rajesh and I are working on plans to combine our two mailing lists.  He has a one that he has used historically for his blogs of many years and I have maintained this list for the past 3-4 years.  Our plans are to continue to send our blogs out at least twice a month, but have them posted as well on our UNESCO Chair web site.

I was delighted to have been invited to the Formal Launch of the UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education at the University of Victoria on 4 March. This event took place in the Ceremonial Hall of First People's House at the University of Victoria.

NIU welcomes Hugo Gutierrez as its Resident Scholar in community engagement

The Center for Governmental Studies of Northern Illinois University (NIU) has welcomed its resident scholar in a fledgling program that promotes community engagement in sustainable regional development through a cohort of international researchers.  Hugo Gutierrez, serves as head of Social Programs in the Social Development and Citizenship Department at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico.  He is co-founder of Mexico Rural and Mexico Urbano community outreach programs.

Job Vacancy - Skills Partnership Project Manager - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs Community Partnership

In the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, the Community Partnership is exploring new ways of improving the opportunities for employment and learning in key green sectors – tourism, rural skills and local food production. The Community Partnership is a wholly grass-root organisation run by the communities and tackling issues raised by the communities. We are seeking a project manager to take this initiative forward.

Call for EUC Visiting Fellowship 2013

The EU Centre in Singapore is now inviting applications for the EUC Visiting Fellowship tenable in the period between May to November 2013. Supporting grants of various amounts of up to €6,000 commensurate with expertise, visiting commitments and duration will be provided for the Visiting Fellow to cover travel, accommodation and subsistence allowances to Singapore. 

Applicants should have a PhD and demonstrable experience and expertise (substantiated by a list of publications, involvement in research projects, policy work) in any of the following research areas:
