The Talloires Network Steering Committee had a very productive session in New York, which you can read about in detail in the article below. One important highlight was the decision of the Steering Committee to engage in a strategic planning process with the Secretariat, to guide the future of the Network. The presence of the Talloires Network Student Representatives brought a valuable perspective and youthful energy to the proceedings. In addition to the articles included in this edition of the Newsletter, I will also be sending a communication later this month with a summary report of the meeting minutes.
 
I am pleased to report that the selections have been made for the Youth Economic Participation Initiative (YEPI) grants. Please watch for a communication regarding the universities that were awarded funding for their programs later in the fall.
 
Best wishes to those starting a new academic year and to those who are now mid-term!

The MasterCard Foundation and Santander Universities Co-Host Talloires Network Roundtable Discussion With Foundation Leaders [38]
On July 24, the Talloires Network sponsored a Roundtable discussion with foundation leaders at the Rockefeller Foundation, co-hosted by The MasterCard Foundation and Santander Universities. Chaired by MasterCard Foundation CEO Reeta Roy, this higher education and philanthropy “summit” addressed the following questions:  What should be the future of the global movement of universities dismantling the ivory tower?  And how can funders and universities work together to achieve that future? 2014 MacJannet Prize [40]
Nomination forms for the 2014 MacJannet Prize will be available in mid-October and will be due on Friday, January 24, 2014. Please watch for the official call for nominations in October. Winners of the prize will be announced next May and a presentation ceremony will take place at the next Talloires Network Global Conference, to be held in late 2014. All Ireland Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education [42]
The Spring 2014 edition of the All Ireland Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education will devote itself to civic and community engagement in higher education. Research papers, reflections, book reviews, letters and reports related to the topic of community and civic engagement, as well as staff and student engagement will be considered. K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award [44]
The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) is accepting nominations for the K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award until October 1, 2013. The K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others; and whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning. Proposals Now Being Accepted for 13th International CCPH Conference [46]
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health is accepting proposals for its 13th International Conference: From Rhetoric to Reality: Achieving Authentic, Equitable & Transformative Partnerships to be held from April 30 to May 3, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Research Seeks Examples of Inspiring Community Campus Partnerships [48]
Susanne Martikke is working with the University of Brighton on a research study that will be looking at community university partnerships, specifically how these partnerships work, how they generate mutual learning and what makes them resilient. Better Futures Network Forum [50]
From November 25 to 28, 2013, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, COEP/Brasil and the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation (Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada) will host the First International Forum of Better Futures: A Network on Communities, Universities, Livelihoods and Citizenship. CLAYSS Agreements in Africa
CLAYSS drafted agreements with the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, located in Nairobi, Kenya, and with the St. Augustine University of Tanzania. They will be part of the Capacity Building Program for Higher Education over the course of 2013 and 2014. The Program will include onsite and on-line professional development courses and aims to contribute to South-South dialogue between socially engaged higher education institutions.

CCPH Annual Award [52]
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health announced the 12th recipient of the CCPH Annual Award, the Manitoba Research Alliance in Winnipeg.  This award highlights the power and potential of partnerships between communities and academic institutions as a strategy for health equity and social justice. Nomination guidelines for the 2014 CCPH Annual Award will be posted on the CCPH website by October 7, 2013 with a deadline of January 17, 2014.  Learn More>> [53]

Global Health and Innovation 2014 Conference [54]
Proposals are being accepted through September 30, 2013 for the 2014 Global Health and Innovation Conference to be held on April 12 and 13, 2014 at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. The majority of presentations submitted for the September 30 deadline will be considered for poster presentations, though some oral presentation slots may be available. Learn More>> [55]
