Community-University Research and Engagement: What would you like to see in place by 2030?

Friends,

The various global community engagement networks will be holding a global video dialogue mid October on “the Future of CU Research and Engagement”.  This will also be a topic of future work with the Global University Network for Innovation team as well.

In support of this work, we would appreciate five minutes of your time.  Please use the comment facility below or contact one of the undesigned to give us a heading and 2-3 sentences (and a link if helpful) about:

What models, practices, structures, policies supporting Community-University Research and Engagement would you like to see in place by 2030?

Thanks,

Budd Hall, Michael Osborne, Paul Manners and Susie See Ching May

What is community?

Hi Budd,

I'm loooking forward to what comes out of this debate, but wanted to seek clarity what is meant by 'community' in the context of this debate.

It is quite common in the UK, for example, to use the word community as a catch-all term to refer to third sector organisations. In this type of usage, the debate may miss two significant sets of actors;

First: 'citizens', in effect the individuals who make up communities. Incredibly diverse, increasingly virtual or thematic as opposed to traditional geographic or neighbourhood conceptions;

Second: Local Governemnt and Public Agencies, which can provide expertise, resources and, crucially practice and policy environments in which researchers can collect and analyse data.

Best regards,

Peter
